When you go, you want to do it right

People are a never-ending source of curiosity.

A British charity recently surveyed 100,000 people about their final funeral requests. The results were fascinating.

wineNumber two on the list was to be buried with a cell phone.  Now I’m not sure who they are planning to phone but I’m thinking you need one heck of a service provider to call from the after-life.

Number three was to be sure that they are actually dead.  I’m guessing those people have watched one too many CSI episodes.

Buried with your pet’s ashes, with your teeth in, or with all your savings, people reveal a little bit about what’s important when they make their final requests.

I’m thinking I want to be buried with a great bottle of wine.  Not knowing exactly where I’m going to end up, I’m guessing I’ll either want to celebrate or I’ll want a good stiff drink.  Either way I’ve got it covered.

What about you?

Just curious.

  1. I’d like to be burried with a small note from anyone that knew me about how I impacted thier lives, positive or negative.

  2. I agree with that sentiment Tracy. When my children suddenly and unexpectedly lost their full time babysitter of 12 years (who was like a 2nd mother to them), they each wrote her a letter reminiscing about great memories they shared together and what she had brought to their lives. Her daughter then tucked the letters in her mom’s jacket pocket against her heart. It was so healing for my kids to be able to do that, and a way for them to say the goodbyes to her that they never got to say before her passing.

  3. I remember that someone sent me this on one of those ’round the world’ emails (might have even been from Laurel) and the sentiment stuck - I’m sure that you got the same email, but sometimes the message is worth repeating.

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, beverage in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO what a ride!”

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments
    that take our breath away.
